Nathaniel McBride

Baritone Nathaniel McBride’s repertoire spans from early classical to contemporary, as well as musical theater. Recent performances include Marcello in La Bohème and Trio member in Trouble in Tahiti with University of Memphis. Due to Covid-19 performances with Berlin Opera Academy as Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus and Father in In Our Own Voices with Steel City Opera were canceled. In summer 2022 he covered the role of Jupiter in Orphee aux enfers with Opera Company of Middlebury and Guglielmo from Cosí fan tutte with Opera Lucca in 2019. Along with roles such as Pangloss from Candide and Duparquet from Hahn’s Ciboulette under the direction of Catherine Malfitano and Shostakovich’s Moscow, Cheryomushki as Drebednev and Mr. Milkin under the direction of Donna Vaughn. Musical theater experience includes performances as Chip from On the town and Shrek in Shrek the Musical directed by Carolyn Marlow. Appearances in the concert arena include performances with the New York Philharmonic, the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra and the Mostly Mozart Festival.
As a teacher, Nathaniel served as an Instructor of Voice at Arkansas State University for the 2023-24 academic year. While completing his graduate studies, he worked as a graduate and teaching assistant for the voice faculty and Dr. Jocelyn Dueck, as well as an academic coach for undergraduates. Nathaniel has taught as a private voice teacher and as an after school teacher for Keiko’s Studio, Graham Windham, and University Settlement while living in New York City. He has also worked as an arts administrator in project management and philanthropy at the Arete Art Gallery in Brooklyn.
Nathaniel earned his Bachelor of Music at Manhattan School of Music studying with Mark Oswald and a Master of Music from Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently studying with Matthew Burns as he completes his Doctorate of Musical Arts and Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit at University of Memphis. Feeling at home in both metropolitan areas, as well as at his family’s dairy farm, Nathaniel is a native of Enon Valley, Pennsylvania.
