About the Program:

The Royal Conservatory Music Development Program (Music Development Program) provides a recognized national standard of musical success through an effectively sequenced course of study from beginner to advanced levels. The Music Development Program inspires excellence through individual student assessments and allows students to celebrate accomplishment and track their progress with others across the country. It also supports teachers with high-quality and innovative resources. All students deserve the opportunity to celebrate their musical achievements nationally. The Royal Conservatory Music Development program is currently available to Pakachoag Piano students.

The Basics:

For each RCMDP level, repertoire lists are provided, along with exercises in ear-training, sight-reading, harmony and more. Assessments evaluate four main components: repertoire, technique, musicianship and musical literacy, and are held twice yearly. Students only take the exams when they feel ready.  Exams are scheduled at one of several examination sites located in Massachusetts, Rhode Island or Connecticut. The program requires an additional fee in order to participate in Conservatory Assessments.

Please begin by speaking with your private instructor.  Pakachoag will help you get started with the appropriate level curriculum and make a plan for achieving your assessment goals. Once your instructor confirms that you are ready to undertake the program, you’ll need to register with the Royal Conservatory, on-line. • Create an online profile • Register online through the profile • Provide payment online at time of registration • Please ensure you obtain your instructor’s Teacher ID to use at time of registration! Examination fees vary by grade level and usually range from $80 up to $200 or $300 dollar range for the top, grade 10 level.
